Definition

A Toonix is an individual who identifies a single, preexisting animated character as an intrinsic part of their identity, across most or all lifetimes and versions of that character. Toonixes are always embody established toons, viewed as existing in a human form in this plane of existence.

In Relation to Other Labels

The Toonix label is distinct from otherkin, fictionkins, therians, and delusional attachments/IRLs. However, a Toonix can also identify with other identities and/or may develop delusional attachments.

Sources, Source Memories, and Source Traumas

Toonixs often have Source Memories from their past life as a toon, which may mirror the media they’re from, differ slightly, or be entirely unique. Some of these memories can be traumatic, leading to Source Traumas, which may cause distress. Toonixs might recall multiple past lives, depending on how many versions of their character exist across different media. Not all versions represent who they are, so creating Source/Media Lists helps clarify which versions they identify with and avoid confusion.

Soul Shifting / Source Shifting

Soul Shifting, also known as Source Shifting, is when a Toonix feels more connected to a specific source at different times. The shift can occur due to mood, environment, or for no clear reason, and may last for varying lengths of time. Shifts can affect behaviors, interests, and moods, depending on how strong the alignment is. While not all Toonixs experience soul shifting, it is a common occurrence.

Proclamations

Many Toonixs may seem "out of character" because our new bodies bring new lives, experiences, and perspectives. We're still the same people, growing and changing like anyone else.

Don't treat us as if we're superior because we're a toon you admire. We're regular people, and some of us may not appreciate that attention. Also, avoid pursuing Toonixs romantically just because of whom we are in media is harmful to both parties; We may not meet your expectations and can make a Toonix uncomfortable.

Please be respectful and considerate of us.
